Your smile deserves the best care from the very first visit. We’re excited to welcome new patients with comprehensive exams and X-rays that lay the foundation for lifelong oral health. Whether it’s been a while since your last dental visit or you’re new to the area, our team ensures your experience is thorough, comfortable, and tailored to your needs.
Our goal is simple: to understand your current oral health, address any concerns, and create a personalized dental care plan that sets you up for success.

Advanced dental X-rays play a key role in detecting oral health issues that aren’t visible during a visual exam. Our digital X-rays provide high-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure, ensuring a safe and effective process. These X-rays help us identify:
Early detection of oral cancer can be life-saving. As part of your exam, our team will conduct a quick visual and physical screening to check for any abnormalities in your mouth, tongue, and throat.
After reviewing your exam results and X-rays, our dentist will discuss your current oral health and any areas of concern. We’ll explain your options and create a customized treatment plan that suits your needs, goals, and lifestyle.
From preventive care to restorative treatments, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of how to maintain a healthy, confident smile.
Many dental issues develop gradually and often go unnoticed without professional exams and imaging. A new patient exam and X-rays provide a complete picture of your oral health and allow our team to:

To help make your first visit a smooth experience, here are a few helpful tips:
We’re here to ensure your first dental exam is as comfortable, efficient, and informative as possible.
A first visit is longer than a routine check-up because we are building a baseline rather than comparing against one. We go through your dental and medical history, examine every tooth, chart existing fillings and crowns, measure the gums around each tooth, check your bite, and screen the soft tissues for anything unusual.
Those gum measurements are worth understanding. Each tooth is measured at several points, and the numbers become the baseline every future visit is compared against. A reading that would be unremarkable on its own is significant if it has changed since last year, which is only knowable if someone recorded it.
An examination can only see the surfaces that are visible. X-rays show what is between the teeth, beneath existing fillings, at the root tips, and in the supporting bone, where a great deal of decay and infection starts.
The radiation dose from dental X-rays is very small. They are taken when they will change what we do, not on a fixed schedule, and we will always explain why one is being suggested. Tell us if you are or might be pregnant.
You will get a clear account of what we found and, if anything needs doing, a written plan with the treatment, the fee codes and the cost. You can take that away, send it to your insurer for a pre-determination, and decide in your own time. Nothing gets booked because you felt put on the spot in the chair.
Where there is more than one reasonable approach, we will set out the options rather than presenting one. Where something can reasonably be watched rather than treated now, we will say that too.
Usually about an hour, sometimes a little longer if a cleaning is done at the same visit.
Often not. Ask your previous dentist to send them over. They are your records and you are entitled to a copy.
Tell us when you book. It changes how we schedule and pace the appointment. A first visit can be just a conversation and a look, with nothing else done, if that is what would help.
No. People come to us having avoided dentists for years, and it is common enough that it is unremarkable. We are interested in where things are now and what to do next.
No, it is part of the examination. We check the tongue, floor of the mouth, cheeks, palate and throat, and feel the neck and jaw. It takes about a minute.
A healthy smile starts with a solid foundation. At Cambridge Dental Clinic, our new patient exams and X-rays give us a clear understanding of your dental health so we can provide care that’s tailored just for you.
We look forward to welcoming you and helping you achieve a smile you can feel great about.
